How to Make Your Own DIY Sanitizer

In a time where hygiene is more important than it's ever been before, keeping yourselves, your home and your family safe, organized and healthy is many people's #1 priority. This can seem next to impossible with so many basic necessities missing from the shelves at local grocery stores, from soap to toilet paper to hand sanitizer.
Luckily, making your own hand and surface sanitizer is an option, and only takes up a few hours of an afternoon to ensure a happy, healthy home. Read on to learn how you can make your very own DIY sanitizer, and be sure to download the printable labels to keep your sanitizers organized!
How to Make DIY Hand Sanitizer
If the stocks of hand sanitizer at your local grocery store are running low, making your own is as easy as gathering up three ingredients. Be sure you're being careful and cautious, even wearing gloves, when handling these ingredients, as well as mixing everything in a clean, well-ventilated area of your home.
To get started, you'll need:
¾ cup isopropyl or rubbing alcohol
¼ cup aloe vera gel
10 drops essential oil of choice (lavender, peppermint, lemon, etc.)
Can sub lemon juice if not available
To create, simply follow these directions::
Pour ingredients into a bowl, ideally a glass measuring container
Blend with a spoon
Beat with whisk to turn mixture to gel consistency
Pour blended mixture into clean, empty bottle with twist-off or pump lid
Label “hand sanitizer”
Once your hand sanitizer is ready for usage, don't forget to attach a label so you always know where it is. Use one of these printable labels, and make sure to cut out the recipe card so you have easily organized access to the recipe for yourself or sharing with friends!

How to Make DIY Surface Sanitizer
If you're someone who lives for the yearly spring clean, then you're well aware that germs can live on commonly-used surfaces for anywhere up to 48 hours. Stop those germs in their tracks by making your own surface sanitizer to keep germs at bay and your home sparkling clean!
The recommended way to clean high-traffic surfaces for a clean, cozy home, including door knobs, light switches, countertops, sinks, faucets and toilets is with a diluted bleach solution around twice a week. When handling bleach, be sure to follow manufacturer guidelines and wear a mask and gloves, as well as mix in a well-ventilated area.
There are two recommended ways to make a bleach solution for your home:
Mix 5 tablespoons (⅓ cup) bleach per gallon of water, OR
4 teaspoons bleach quart of water
Mix the ingredients carefully before storing in a plastic spray bottle, which you can label with a printable spray bottle label. The container holding your cleaner should be as fabulous as the home it's cleaning, after all!

Be sure to stay organized and think ahead to fill out the "bottling date" with each batch you create. Fresh bleach provides the best cleaning outcomes, while expired bleach won't kill germs as effectively. Wear disposable gloves when handling this bleach solution, and wash hands after each use!
Just like with hand sanitizing, there is a proper way to wash your hands to curb the spread of germs and infection. The recommended time is 20 seconds, which is about the length of singing "Happy birthday" twice (or the chorus of "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees!).
