How to Create a Meaningful Daily Bible Study Habit for Lent
Lent is a beautiful time to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with your faith. But if you’re anything like me, the idea of daily Bible study can feel a little overwhelming at first. Where do you start? What do you read? How do you stay consistent for 40 days?
That’s why Lent is actually the perfect time to begin a simple daily Bible study habit.
You don’t need a complicated plan.
You don’t need hours of quiet time.
You just need a gentle structure that guides you each day and helps you spend a few intentional minutes in God’s Word.
Start Small and Keep It Simple
The biggest mistake people make when trying to start a daily Bible study routine is making it too big. Too many pages. Too many goals. Too much pressure.
Instead, think of this as a daily pause.
A few verses. A small prompt. A short prayer. A moment to reflect.
That’s it.
When you remove the pressure to “do it perfectly,” it becomes something you actually look forward to each day instead of something you feel guilty about missing.
Use Prompts to Remove the Guesswork
One of the easiest ways to build consistency is to take away the question of what to read. Prompts give you a clear path to follow so you can sit down, open your Bible, and begin right away.
That’s exactly why I created a Lent Journal Prompts Printable. Each day is already mapped out for you with Scripture and a reflection focus, so you can simply follow along without overthinking it.
You can print the pages, slip them into a binder, or keep them right inside your planner so they’re easy to reach each day.
Create a Small Daily Routine
Tie your Bible study to something you already do every day:
Morning coffee
Before bed
During lunch break
Right after you open your planner
Linking this new habit to an existing routine makes it feel natural instead of forced.
Write It Down
Writing your thoughts, prayers, and reflections helps your study time feel more meaningful. You don’t need to write paragraphs. A few lines is enough.
If you enjoy having a guided place to write, this is where a journal becomes incredibly helpful. My Foundations of Faith Bible Study Journal was designed for this exact purpose — daily Scripture, prompts, and reflection pages that make it easy to stay consistent all year long, not just during Lent.
You can use the printable version or the physical journal, whichever fits your routine best.
Focus on Consistency, Not Perfection
Some days will be quiet and focused. Some days will feel rushed. That’s normal.
What matters is showing up.
Lent is not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about intentionally drawing closer to God in small, meaningful ways each day.
A Gentle Place to Begin
If you’ve been wanting to start a daily Bible study habit but didn’t know where to begin, Lent is your invitation to start small.
Use the Lent prompts to guide you. Use a journal to hold your reflections. And most importantly, give yourself grace as you build this new routine.
You might be surprised how much those few minutes each day can grow into something you truly treasure long after Lent is over.
