September Reset: 5 Things to Organize Before October

September Reset: 5 Things to Organize Before October

September always feels like a mini new year to me. The long summer days fade, the air turns crisp, and suddenly there’s that gentle nudge to reset and get back on track. If you’ve been feeling a little scattered or just want to head into October feeling more organized and inspired, a quick “September Reset” can work wonders.

You don’t need a huge overhaul — just a few intentional tweaks to clear the clutter and refocus. Here’s how to give your planning routine a cozy refresh before the new month begins.

1. Review & Clean Up Your Planner Pages

Start by flipping back through your September pages. Check off any lingering tasks, tie up loose ends, and move unfinished to-dos forward.

If something no longer matters, let it go. This simple review helps you avoid the “open loops” that weigh on your mind.

I like to take five minutes to pull out any sticky notes or random lists that have piled up. If they’re still relevant, rewrite them neatly on a fresh page; if not, toss them.

A clean slate does wonders for your mental space and makes your October spreads feel fresh and inviting.

2. Refresh Your Goals & Habits

Once you’ve reviewed September, pause and ask yourself what you want from the next 30 days. What goals or habits are still important? Which ones can you pause or drop?

Choose one to three priorities for October — no more. Maybe it’s finishing a work project, creating a new routine, or simply protecting more downtime as the holiday rush begins. Then break each into small steps you can actually check off.

If you like to track habits, set up a new page or printable. (I have some beautiful, easy-to-use habit trackers in the shop if you need a fresh start 💖). This little step keeps you focused and motivated instead of overwhelmed.

3. Prep Key Dates & Appointments

October can fill up fast with birthdays, school events, seasonal festivals, and the first hints of holiday prep. Pull out your calendar and get those important dates written down now. It’s much easier to plan meals, weekend trips, or shopping lists when you can see the month ahead.

I like to jot down early reminders for holiday tasks too — things like “start gift list” or “plan Thanksgiving menu.” It might feel early, but future you will be so grateful not to be scrambling later.

4. Declutter Your Workspace

Your physical space has a huge impact on how you feel when you sit down to plan. Take ten minutes to clear off your desk or kitchen table — wherever you usually set up with your planner. Toss paper scraps, corral pens and stickers, and wipe the surface clean.

If you want to go a step further, add something cozy: a small candle, a little plant, or one of those cute desktop organizers. The goal is a spot that feels inviting so planning doesn’t feel like a chore.

5. Add a Seasonal Touch

One of my favorite parts of fall planning is making it feel seasonal and cozy. Swap in warm-toned washi tape, autumn stickers, or even a new planner cover. If you print your own inserts, try a fresh design or color palette that makes you smile every time you open your planner.

If you need inspiration, I’ve shared plenty of fall-themed printables you can grab — and of course, my 2026 Everything Planners are ready to go if you want a full refresh. A small seasonal update keeps things fun and sparks creativity.

Making Your Reset Simple & Fun

The best part? You don’t need a whole afternoon for this reset. Just set aside 30 minutes, make a cup of something warm, and work through each step at your own pace. By the time October arrives, you’ll have a clear planner, focused goals, and a cozy space that invites you back day after day.

Final Thoughts

September is the perfect time to pause, breathe, and prepare for the busy months ahead. A quick reset now means less stress later and more space for the things you actually want to do — like sipping cider, enjoying crisp fall walks, and making new memories.

Take a little time for yourself, friend. Your October self will thank you.
